The first you notice about the hand thrown stoneware is its wonderfully vivid highly saturated colors. A heavy reduction firing and individual application of the colors achieve this result. The color is applied using a series of slips and stains under and on top of the celedon glaze. This layering process of the colors with the clear glaze adds depth to the finished pieces. The hand painting on the shapes give a contemporary flare to the traditional forms.
The high-fired reduction firing achieves the brilliant colors. There are no leads or toxins in the glazes so the pieces are safe for use; therefore they are functional as well as beautiful.
