Artists at Work in the Heart of Matlacha
I have always been fascinated by the natural beauty of wood. Shades of wood from the palest maple to the darkest walnut, its rich touch and subtly fragrances have drawn me to it like a magnet for as long as I can remember. When I started to work with wood, my first project was a picture frame carved from a thin piece of walnut. I was ten years old.
As a young man with a family, I made furniture for our home- dining room tables, bedroom sets, and even a choo-choo train bed for our daughter. It became a nice diversion from my career in electronics and computers. Now my wife and I live on Pine Island, Florida during the winters and spend our summers in Colorado with our family. My interest in wood now has changed focus from furniture construction to woodturning, as I have discovered the more artistic side of myself. I am excited by the process of woodturning that allows me to combine various forms with the natural beauty of wood.
