Artists at Work in the Heart of Matlacha
I have always been very interested in anything creative, so after raising one beautiful son, I decided to pursue art in the next stage of my life. In 1998, I attended different types of art classes at the University of Wisconsin, enrolled in numerous workshops and continued to evolve in several directions.
I moved to Florida in 2002. The colorful atmosphere of Florida greatly inspires my creativity. I was a watercolorist for many years before deciding to try stained glass, pottery and glass fusing. I found I enjoyed doing glass fusing. In the past several years I have made numerous decorative works of fused glass art. All the bright colors are a delight to me when arranged to make a whimsical piece. I also hand-paint ceramic tiles from scenes I design using pencil and paper or electronic drawing pad on my computer. All of the fused glass and hand-painted tiles are kiln-fired to 1400 degrees for lasting endurance. And now my work is enhanced by frames made from retired Florida Keys lobster traps, designed and created by my husband, Tom.
I also enjoy creating beaded jewelry pieces. I design each piece as I stitch with a certain color scheme in mind, which is usually tropical.
