           Felix Macaguani Rodriguez

Ciboney & Calusa Aboriginal Coastal Art

Felix produces hand carved works of native design in the artistic traditions of his Ciboney/Calusa heritage.  His paddles are known for their authentic yet original pre-Columbian period  aboriginal motif.  His family tree extends from Florida into Cuba  and he has fond memories of his granduncle’s tales of native customs and way of life.

His museum quality pieces have been sought by Tribal art curators and make stunning additions to any collection of authentic aboriginal art.  Ever the student of his native roots, Felix continues to devote himself to the understanding of his culture and its expression in art form.

To Felix, respect for nature and a fraternity with its creatures are the hallmarks of Ciboney/Calusa culture.  These ideals are truly reflected in the way Felix masterfully hand carves indigenous designs upon his paddles.

Each paddle tells the story of the native’s relationship to the land/sea and his efforts to survive  as part of a greater  whole.  Animal and plant forms are depicted  with equal expressions of awe and symbolism which distinguish the philosophy and identity of the aboriginal way of life unique to each tribe.    The Artist’s heritage is strongly evident in his work.
